Track Of The Day #229: Yeah And She Has Red Lips Too – We Don’t Want to Have to Fight You

Taking their name from a David Lynch painting, London’s Yeah And She Has Red Lips Too are a sassy-female led-new-wave rock foursome, whom released a might fine new double single last week: (Get Down And) Disconnect and We Don’t Want To Have To Fight You. Our track of the day is that releases infectious ruminative flip-side: its bubbling synths, explosive drums and sinuous clambering guitar lines are punctuated by yelped ‘Heys’. This fire is lit by the lip curling attitude of flame haired singer Caz Hellbent’s dexterous vocal performance: her refrains are at one moment spat out then knowingly sung like there’s nothing left to lose reminiscent of the attitude of the much missed We Start Fires and at others of the melodic playfulness of Joan Jett.

Apparently Inspired by Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders, it tells the story of misfits and runaways, inevitably drawn to the fight. “When there’s no hope, you’ll find us sleeping on the back seat”, Caz sings, reflecting the anger and despair of today’s lost generation, forced to fight constantly against their will against a society bent on keeping them down. While the marvelous crashing crescendos of the fist pumping chorus line encapsulates this feeling of it being US VS the rest of the world! Watch the video below!
