Track of the Day #468: Nanook of the North – Panda Eyes

nanook

Cardiff/Bristol outfit Nanook of the North fashion wonderfully well crafted, stripped back multi-instrumentals and lace them with honest vocal interplay, you could call it post rock or post folk but really it’s just great songwriting, that opens up the rib cage of conventional song structures and imbues them with the genuine power to move the listener.

Their recent track ‘Panda Eyes’ is something special indeed, building from yearning, tender and singular infatuation to swelling widescreen – percussive crescendos and emotive communal choruses. It bares comparison with elements of the trembles of Explosions in the Sky, and muted poignancy of Low.
