Primavera Sound, a relatively young festival, having only been in existence from 2001, takes over the Parc del Fòrum leisure site in Barcelona for the latter part of this week with a line-up that has attracted a lot of media attention this year.
Focusing mainly on independent music, the programme is renowned for its eclecticism. In fact, it is hardly surprising that Rough Trade have released a compilation with a list of tracks from artists who are performing this year at the scenester’s comfort zone, titled Rough Trade Shops: Primavera Sound 2014.
Taking place from the 28th – 31st May, with a line up swelling with talent there will be a blatant excruciating excitement for this year’s programme that beholds us this week. Over the course of the festival there will be performances from Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, Jagwar Ma, The Pixies, Arcade Fire, The National, Television, Slowdive, Neutral Milk Hotel, Mogwai, Dr John & The Nite Trippers , Godspeed You Black Emperor, John Grant, Moderat, Glasser, Darkside, Chvrches, Metronomy, Kronos Quartet, Courtney Barnett, Warpaint, Kendrick Lamar and The War on Drugs to name but a few.
In fact Rough Trade’s compilation will in fact fuel this excitement, drawing the music fan’s attention to the more unknown independent artists. Incorporating the likes of Jagwar Ma, The Pixies and The War on Drugs, this compilation invites those that are there for the better known of the artists at this Catalonian fiesta also. However, with the likes of Julia Holter, Blood Orange, Real Estate, Temples and Wolf Eyes included on this, it should and will only heighten the anticipation for this week.
