In a little over four weeks’ time Duncombe Park will once more open its gates to the Galtres Parklands Festival. Located a mile outside of the North Yorkshire market town of Helmsley, Duncombe Park has been the seat of the Duncombe family for over four hundred years. The festival is held in the spectacular grounds to the front of the house itself with ample parking and camping facilities situated in nearby fields. There are two camping areas; one right next to the main arena, with the other a short walk away and which provides a more sedate and spacious 
environment in a meadow by the side of the River Rye which meanders its way slowly through the estate.
In returning to the scene of last year’s triumph, Galtres Parklands Festival will celebrate its 10th anniversary at Duncombe Park over the August bank holiday weekend. And by way of celebration the festival organisers have put on what promises to be an even bigger and better event in 2014.
Galtres Parklands this year welcomes no less than five headlining acts. On the Friday evening two major bands joined by the common thread of folk music will share top billing – up first will be Bellowhead followed shortly thereafter by The Levellers in what will be a most rousing evening’s entertainment.
Twenty four hours later a further two headliners will appear back-to-back on the festival’s main Duke Stage. In an inspired piece of scheduling trip-hop pioneers Morcheeba and the man responsible for the anti-Britpop classic that is Maxinquaye, Tricky will share the honours on Saturday evening.
And then closing out the festival on Sunday night with some considerable style and no shortage of classic pop songs will be no less than the magnificently enduring synth-pop group that is Sheffield’s The Human League.
When account is also taken of an incredibly strong supporting card that includes Public Service Broadcasting, the explosive Jim Jones Revue and Northern Irish singer-songwriter Foy Vance there is great cause for excitement.
But it is not all about established national acts as Galtres Parklands Festival continues with its strong commitment to promoting local talent. Former Seahorses singer Chris Helme, York’s perennial troubadour Boss Caine and Wakefield’s very own bluesbreakers, Crybabycry are among over 100 top acts that will perform across eight stages at the festival.

And Galtres Parklands Festival is not only confined to song and dance. Having started life ten years ago as a beer festival, it comes as no little surprise to learn that more than one hundred fine beers and ciders from around Yorkshire will be on offer throughout the weekend. There will also be a full programme of additional entertainment ranging from cabaret, comedy and theatre to a whole variety of activities for children.
The festival will again be cashless, operating as it does an electronic payment system whereby ALL event purchases, including bars, food and rides will be by G-CARD. This can be bought in advance but festival goers will be able to top up their G-CARD at the festival by debit or credit card as well as by cash.
