So OK it’s not really news anymore. The cat is out of the bag and we’re all filled with anticipation of A Heavenly Weekend in Hebden Bridge, taking place 22 – 25 January 2015 at The Trades Club in Hebden Bridge (aka one of West Yorkshire’s finest and longest surviving musical establishments).
St Etienne, The Manics, Flowered up, Temples, Stealing Sheep, The Voyeurs…Innovative and open-minded from the very start, Heavenly Recordings has always been a mad lab of experimentation, giving life to a confluence of futuristic Northern Soul, speedball punk, wild-eyed urban rock’n’roll and squat party country music.
Although Hebden Bridge may not be the most obvious location for the launch of the London label’s 25-year anniversary celebrations, those of us of northern persuasion are not complaining. The event features a good number of the current roster (e.g. Temples, Toy, The Wytches, Cherry Ghost), showcasing what has been a particularly fruitful couple of years for this continuously evolving label. As well as live music, there will be DJs and, in the 150-seater theatre that sits beside The Trades Club, the showing of two Heavenly Films, ‘How We Used To Live’ and a rare screening of ‘Lawrence Of Belgravia’. The film event will also feature a Q&A with film-makers Paul Kelly and Bob Stanley. What a way to start your festival year!
