The ‘Highway to Hell’ may be littered with rock bands of various calibre, and The Pretty Reckless roared into the Brixton Academy last night, intent on carving their own mark along it. Opening with ‘Follow me Down’ off their new album ‘Going to Hell’ they shift gears effortlessly between stadium fist pumping choruses and delta blues verses. Actress turned model turned front woman, Taylor Momsen’s voice is in fine form, combining the pop sheen of Shirley Manson and the grit of Courtney Love.

While they may not have gallons of serious ‘rock’ credibility, songs like ‘Fucked up World’, ‘Why’d you bring a Shotgun to the Party’ and earlier hit ‘Make me Wanna Die’ show they know the power of La Super Charged Riff and a stonking chorus. Plus, by the legions of adoring fans present, it’s clear than they don’t give a hoot about mainstream credibility issues. They were there to get their eye liner on, rock out and sing their little hearts out.
