Two of the North’s top independent gig promoters – Hey! Manchester and the York-based Please Please You – have joined forces to put on a couple of very special shows over the next few weeks.
Both performances – the first of which is at Manchester’s Band on the Wall on Monday 19th January and the second at the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds on Tuesday 3rd February – feature the singular talent of one Justin Townes Earle. Long since having emerged from the considerable shadow of his illustrious father as a country-blues artist in his very own right, Earle will be showcasing material from his new album Absent Fathers, the companion record to last year’s Single Mothers.
The Leeds and Manchester shows are the perfect bookends to a ten date jaunt across Northern Europe and Scandinavia. Justin Townes Earle will be accompanied on all of these performances by none other than the former founding member of Lambchop and current steel guitar and pedal steel player in Calexico, Paul Niehaus.
Support on the tour is provided by Earle’s fellow Nashvillian musician, Andrew Combs, a man who is no stranger to the Brudenell having previously played there a couple of years back as support to, and as part of Caitlin Rose’s live band. And like Earle, Combs will also be promoting a new record, his second album All These Dreams.
These two Trans-Pennine dates – which form part of a wider UK tour – promise to be something very special indeed.
