Track Of The Day #650: The Rebel Light – ‘Strangers’

10245567_689171654475022_1103092526940516452_nThe Rebel Light are three international men of mystery. They are the brothers Steil, Alan and Jarrett, and Brandon Cooke who, according to TRL folklore, may or may not be their long lost cousin. What much is known is that they emerged out of the Los Angelean smog a couple of years back with a headful of nostalgia and a mighty, mighty thirst for success.

Now with their brand new single ‘Strangers’ about to land The Rebel Light may just be about to achieve their destiny. The song is a delightful pastiche of half forgotten musical styles, ranging from the dizzying late ’60s sunshine pop of The 5th Dimension through the classic white pop-soul of Todd Rundgren‘s 1972 opus Something Anything to the more recent, and occasionally beautiful lo-fi take on psychedelic popular music that is fellow Southern Californian Ariel Pink‘s Before Today.

Born of a myriad of influences and with the warmth of a Californian sun beating down on its back, Strangers’ is a nigh on perfect way to look ahead to summer.

‘Strangers’ will be released on 9th March 2015
