Kev. – Questions w/ domino And Natey

a2006259531_16Kev. may not have many followers on Soundcloud – in fact he barely surpasses 1,000 – but it’s fair to say that that will change very soon, especially with the array of strikingly well-produced music he has been sharing for the past few weeks.

Kev.’s affecting, incredibly smooth jazz instrumental harmonizes perfectly with the vocals of a mysterious individual named Subi. The simple, melodious beat in the background allows Subi’s velvety yet sorrowful vocals to stand out markedly and beautifully. The song, entitled ‘Questions’, effectively translates misery and pain into music. Without all the question-filled lyrics such as: “how is it that pain can take so many shapes?”, it is clear that although the beat may be delightful to listen to there is a great deal of meaning behind the lyrics, a clear juxtapose. In addition to this, another lesser known artist who goes by the name of domino suddenly and surprisingly comes into the track, a pleasant seamless shift from soft singing to dulcet sounding rap verses.

The young Sacramento-based beatsmith only has a total of five tracks released as of now, but it sounds as if in these past few months he has been using his talents increasingly well, collaborating with other lesser known musicians, artists and impressive vocalists.

When I reached out to Kev. about what he plans to do concerning future projects and collaborations, he was incredibly forthcoming and friendly. He’s currently trying to work with as many talented people as he possibly can, not in the efforts of gaining more followers, but for creating art with individuals with potential. As he told me himself: “I think collaborating is a weird thing because I’d rather do it if they’re down my alley. I know a lot of people that try to collaborate with people just because of their numbers and because it’ll benefit them, but I like to collaborate with people to try new things or just because I really like what they’re doing.”

Listen to the track below, and be sure to appreciate the simple artwork that goes with it:
