Track Of The Day #789: Snøskred – Lexington Hotel

b‘Lexington Hotel’ is the new single from Norwegian four-piece Snøskred. Taken from the band’s forthcoming album Empty House, it is a song inspired in part by a dream that singer Karl Klaseie had about the film Scarface.  But where Brian de Palma’s 1983 gangster movie oozed sex, power, blood and money, ‘Lexington Hotel’ follows a much gentler though just as intensely listenable path.

Influenced by the more sensitive and reflective dimensions of Yo La Tengo, the aesthetic of ‘Lexington Hotel’ is one of enigma and carefully concealed drama. Propelled along by a lovely, loping rhythm the song’s dreamy narrative is occasionally punctured by the sound of dappled guitars. And as its final credits begin to fade from view all you want to do is pick this record up and play it again.

Empty House will be released on February 19th via Riot Factory.
