On the surface of it, Gottwood’s musical output is pretty incongruous to its setting: an idyllic stretch of countryside in northern Wales doesn’t strike you as the likely epicentre of some serious bass vibrations. But tucked away esoterically within a Holyhead forest is a festival which allies stunning visuals with stellar electronic music; where lakeside raves combine with woodland boogies; and where the curation of a party is as breath-taking as it is tinnitus-inducing. Since its debut in 2010, central to Gottwood’s philosophy has been the creation of a festival which sounds every bit as good as it looks.
As such, the line-up easily befits its fairytale setting, reading like a who’s who in reputable house, drone and techno in a bill which neatly intersperses the established with the emerging. The old-guard is well represented by the likes of Move D, Optimo, Prosumer, Tama Sumo and Axel Boman, while Max Graef, Hunni, Joy Orbison and Ben UFO provide worthy reinforcement with their relatively fresh legs.
Fresh announcements have unveiled the multimedia installations which will take place away from the music. Film will be provided by Resident Advisor and Future Shorts, while Behind This Wall and the Turner Prize-winning design collective Assemble will augment the festival’s arts and creative programme.
All of this will combine to create an intra-sensory picture postcard, and we can’t wait.
