Last year, Edge Hill University’s The Label Recordings released Hooton Tennis Club‘s brilliantly named EP I Was A Punk In Europe (But My Mum Didn’t Mind) which led to them being snapped up by Heavenly Recordings, so they’ve got some pedigree in the talent spotting department.
On 27 May they’re releasing the debut single by Youth Hostel, the catchy-as-a-cold ‘Out Of My Mouth’, all staccato riffs and scouse-accented indie charm. It’s already had plenty of support from the likes of Janice Long on Radio 2 and Dave Monks from BBC Radio Merseyside’s Introducing show and it’s well deserved. The rapid fire verse-chorus-verse structure means that it doesn’t outstay its welcome and the inspired introduction of a brass section in the dying minute demonstrates an eagerness to expand their horizons beyond most indie bands. A very promising start.
