Frontman of The Charlatans Tim Burgess and acclaimed producer Peter Gordon have announced that they’ll be releasing a collaborative record, Same Language, Different Worlds, on 2nd September via Burgess’ own label O Genesis. The pair originally met in 2012 and they planned to work together ever since. Gordon has produced the album in New York and the record features many of the pair’s previous collaborators, including Ernie Brooks, who worked on Arthur Russell’s Modern Lovers LP, trombone player Peter Zummo, conga player Mustafa Ahmed and one half of electronic outfit Factory Floor, Nik Void. The duo have also released a taster of the album in the form of ‘Unguarded.’ Listen below.
Burgess spoke about working with Gordon: “What I love about working with Peter is that in the late 70s with Peter Zummo and Arthur Russell and all the New York cats at The Kitchen, they were all making futuristic records.” He continues: “Now Peter in his mid-60s is still looking to do that. It’s the world I want to be in.”
The pair will be doing a brief tour of the UK in September, which includes an appearance at this year’s Festival No. 6 in Portmeirion. Details below.
1st September – Hare & Hounds, Birmingham
1nd September – Gorilla, Manchester
3rd September – Festival No. 6, Portmeirion
