Track Of The Day #872: Dotter – Creatures Of The Sun

I’ve never made a secret about loving pop music, and I just love discovering new things to adore.  This time around it’s the turn of Swedish star in the making Dotter and her genius track ‘Creatures Of The Sun’.  It opens in gigantic fashion with bold vocals, upbeat and suitably sunshiny.  It’s a catchy tune, carried by her bright and colourful vocals, weaving threads and shooting stars all over.

There’s a touch of Bjork and Lana Del Rey (if Lana Del Rey was brave enough to make the leap out of melancholy and pretence).  It’s the perfect summer hit, and, if ‘Children Of The Sun’ is anything to go by, Dotter – born Johanna Maria Jansson –  which is Swedish for ‘Daughter’, she will surely go global imminently and become Sweden’s new favourite daughter in her own right.

“My inspiration is always the ‘70s, but sometimes I don’t think about it so much – it just becomes something that doesn’t sound like anyone else,” she says.  Be that as it may, it sounds incredibly fresh and up to date.
