NEWS: Tony Njoku wins Green Man Festival’s Rising competition

When: 18th-21st August
Where: Brecon Beacons, Wales

British/ Nigerian producer Tony Njoku has won this year’s Green Man Rising competition, held by Green Man Festival.  Njoku won over the judges with his striking soundscapes peppered with swirling electronics and layered vocals, which made his short pop songs sound epic and atmospheric.  He will now open up the Mountain Stage at this year’s festival, where he’ll later be joined by Belle and Sebastian, James Blake and Laura Marling.

The panel of judges were impressed by the quality of this year’s competition, so the runners up have also been asked to play at the festival.  London rock quartet Shark Dentist, Anglo-Norgwegian fuzz pop duo Her’s, Cardiff off-kilter pop act Oh Peas!, alt folk artist Oh Sister and French psych pop pair Alone With Everybody will all make appearances at the event.

Green Man’s festival director Fiona Stewart commented: “Our 9th Green Man Rising competition proved to be one of our biggest, best and fiercest competitions yet.  I want to thank all of the fantastic finalist bands, the judges and everyone who entered.  We’re looking forward to see Tony Njoku kicking things off on the Mountain Stage this year!”
