NEWS: Portishead reveal official version of ‘SOS’

Trip hop icons Portishead have finally revealed the official version of their take on ABBA’s ‘SOS.’  The song originally featured on the soundtrack to Ben Wheatley’s film adaptation of JG Ballard’s High Rise last year and was the first new music from the group in seven years.  The haunting track features haunting drones and fluttering hi hats, as well the typically beautiful, ethereal voice of singer Beth Gibbons.  It’s fair to say that it’s very different to the Scandinavians’ 1975 version.

The song also has a simple but effective video to accompany it, featuring Gibbons shot in stark black and white gradually being approached by the camera.  It closes with a quotation from MP Jo Cox, who was tragically killed last week.  Watch below.
