NEWS: Róisín Murphy wins AIM 2016’s Outstanding Contribution to Music Award

Ahead of their official Awards ceremony in Clerkenwell on 6th September, the Association of Independent Music have announced that electronic producer and singer Róisín Murphy has won 2016’s Outstanding Contribution to Music gong.  The award sees her following in the footsteps of previous winners Skepta, Billy Bragg, Richie Hawtin, Edwin Collins and Bjork.

Murphy’s career has seen her develop from being Moloko’s singer into an innovative and inspirational artist, producing four albums in the past eleven years.  Last year her album Hairless Toys was nominated for the Mercury Prize.  She has also been recognised for her achievements in mixing music with high fashion, citing the artistic choreography and numerous costume changes within her gigs.

Murphy is due to release her new album Take Her Up To Monto, on Friday (8th July).  She describes the album as being about “the London that I live in, it’s a lot about architecture, it’s about building and the future coming, it’s about here!”  Watch the video for ‘Ten Miles High’ below.

Tickets for this year’s AIM Awards ceremony are now on sale.
