NEWS: Alexis Taylor covers Prince for Low Four

Hot Chip frontman Alexis Taylor recently released a solo album Piano, in which he stripped his usual electronic sound down to just vocals and keys.  Last week he visited Low Four, a new live music video platform based in Manchester’s old Granada Studios, to play a few songs.

Most notably, he covered a rare Prince track, ‘Old Friends 4 Sale.’  Taylor says:  “The song was recorded originally by Prince in 1985 for potential inclusion on the album Parade.  It remained unreleased until around the late ’90s when he changed the lyrics and re-recorded an inferior version which was much more tame lyrically.  My cover is of the original unreleased version which has circulated on bootlegs since the late ’80s.”  Watch below.

The full performance also saw Taylor performing a stripped back version of Hot Chip’s ‘So Much Further to Go’ and a cover of Whitney Houston’s hit ‘I Look to You.’  Watch the full performance here.

Low Four have two more acts already lined up, with Egyptian Hip Hop frontman Aldous RH performing on 9th July and Toronto genre-benders Weaves set to play on 20th July.
