Pegged – by Pool Art themselves – as Noise/Dream, a term that actually sounds rather like an oxymoron, ‘Don’t Feed Me To Them’ lives up to it brilliantly. At first, you might think it belongs firmly on a Crow soundtrack. The opening notes are misleading, but it’s all good. The klaxon-like noise? Not so much, but it soon gives way to those horror film sensibilities. The guitars grate and howl (and sound as though they’re in physical pain) above the breathy, barely-there vocals, and actually, it’s really quite pretty in its own gloomy, dark, smoke-obscured way.
But even that doesn’t last all that long. The guitars are at full speed while the vaguely dream-like qualities it once possessed have disappeared entirely, revealing something more nightmarish but still utterly intriguing and compelling. It ends just as it began – those notes from the calm before the storm – only extended and making you wonder if perhaps something else from the nightmare is about to come crawling out of the fog. All in all, though, it’s an excellent, and very creative track. One spin is not enough, though.
‘Don’t Feed Me To Them’ is released 14th October.
