Track Of The Day #958: Deep Throat Choir – Be OK

A desire to strip things right back down to basics was key in the mind of Luisa Gerstein, formerly of Landshapes and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, when drawing up the blueprint for her latest project, the all-female Deep Throat Choir. The irresistible result, as evidenced here on their forthcoming album’s title track, is bookended somewhere between Gaggle, Tom Tom Club, Bananarama and, perhaps, SWV.

Be OK‘ is one of just two original tracks from that album, due in 2017, the rest of its content being rather intriguingly made up of re-workings of songs by the likes of Amy Winehouse, Electrelane and MK amongst others.

Until then, though, let us bathe in the radiant beauty of this splendidly minimalist record, which features little more than voice and drums. Not that you can tell, for Be OK merely sounds like the musical equivalent of a perfect summer day.
