Track Of The Day #961: The Charlemagne – Tabula Rasa (You’re Killing Me)

The Charlemagne hail from Tipton in the West Midlands and describe themselves as a ‘dark alternative’ band. They formed last year and have been building a live following in the West Midlands at venues such as the famous Rainbow in Digbeth, Birmingham.

‘Tabula Rasa (You’re Killing Me)’ sees the band employ a slightly lighter touch than on their previously shared tracks; the band opting for a less-is-more sparser sound which takes them more towards The Xx territory, albeit with a distinctly darker edge. The Charlemagne quote their key influences as The Smiths, Blur and The Cure, but in reality, their sound points more towards The Chameleons or Psychedelic Furs, at times almost-goth (but not quite).
