There’s a rumble in the rock universe, a stab into the core of rock’s fat underbelly. And the band in question, the act which have broken shackles and added sweet dimensions, are Chelmsford outfit Tigress. They’re ordering a revolution on their new EP Who Cares, they’re building empires in their pretty little heads, their talented psyches, and with it all blossoming, this band are ones to watch.
Who Cares is a darker, more riff driven collection. The guitar aspect is excellent and the lyrics have been composed through enchanting, but ruthless stories. The band promised they would add more complexity to their sound and have done here, dazzling as they dredge through their own problems. Yes this band hurts, it’s heard on these 5 songs, despair is evident too, overbearing, but through their music it can be disconnected for a slender while.
Katy Jackson belts out her voice with even more verve and intent. She wants to be heard, she wants her mind to explode, her grievances noted. The young singer seems fearless, but she clearly feels the constraints of life pulling at her like a force field. Although through sounds, she is capable of sending shockwaves through a cut-throat industry. Well, the band are capable of great things, they’re on form and on a road to success. And Who Cares is a collection to behold. A monumental product from an act naturally blooming and not succumbing to pressure or gasping for fame’s two sided sword. They’re gallant and ready for the fight, orchestrating enormous musical moments.
‘Paranoid‘ starts proceedings. It’s a true winner, with guitar parts worthy of praise and acclaim. It’s rough, it’s raw, and it’s pleasing. Jackson sings about mania and paranoia, she hates everyone in the place she calls Hell. ‘Over Your Love‘ is a loud thrill. The instrumental muscle is gratifying, and Jackson bellows about disconnecting and feeling free from poisonous love. ‘Hangman‘ showcases Jackson’s wonderful vocal range. She pushes them to the limit. The damage is done and the voices have overtaken her mind. She’s eager for peace and tranquillity.
Tigress have opened the shades of their minds fully here. Who Cares is a triumphant rock thriller, touching on perfect notes.
Who Cares is out now on LAB Records.
