Preaching From The Pews: Low Hummer

Preaching From The Pews: Low Hummer

Low Hummer may well be skint Northerners but their debut single ‘Don’t You Ever Sleep’ could be their first ever step to fame and fortune. Described by the band’s vocalist Daniel Mawer as “a song about late night loneliness and anxiety leading to purchasing items online as a form of therapy”, ‘Don’t You Ever Sleep’ is built around a funky guitar motif reminiscent of Carlos Alomar’s wonderful riff for David Bowie’s ‘Fame’ before an avalanche of 80’s synths and drum machines join the Low Hummer party.

‘We Are Bored’ goes the song’s refrain. Listening to this first offering from the Hull five-piece, I doubt that you will be too.

‘Don’t You Ever Sleep’ was released on 17th September 2019 by the Leeds record label Dance To The Radio.

And you can catch Low Hummer live as part of Live at Leeds’ Ones to Watch at the Brudenell Social Club on 12th October 2019.
