News: the Mountain Goats release their first music video in five years

The Mountain Goats are back. In truth, they have never really been away – their 18th studio album Songs for Pierre Chuvin which came out in April is firm testament to this. But in advance of its follow-up, Getting Into Knives – due out on the 23rd of October on Merge Records – the band from Durham, Carolina led by the prolific and prodigious talent that is John Darnielle have just released their first music video in five years.

The video for ‘Get Famous’ – the second track on the new album – was directed by David Hollander, a man perhaps most notably known as the creator, screenwriter, and an executive producer of The Guardian, a Pittsburgh-based legal drama which aired on CBS in the United States.

The video’s accompanying press release tells us that “a group made up of many of Hollywood’s finest crew members shot the video over the course of 4 days during COVID-19, mastering a unique shooting style to accommodate the proportions and “acting challenges” of using bobblehead figurines.” And the video’s inherent story reflects John Darnielle’s lyrics about the pitfalls of fame.
