Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMA) 2020 winners revealed

The SAMAs celebrate the best in new Scottish music each year.

The 11th edition of the awards took place online on Wednesday 18 November. A virtual ceremony was streamed globally via Twitch, it pulled in viewers from across Europe and as far away as USA and Brazil.

Radio presenter and DJ Jim Gellatly hosted the evening’s proceedings alongside spoken word artist and theatre maker Leyla Josephine, with performances from 2020 Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award winner Nova (pictured) Glasgow band Walt Disco.

TAAHLIAH is the first artist to ever be nominated twice in the same year, and go on to win in both categories.

Following the three-day public ballot receiving over 10, 000 votes, the 2020 SAMA winners are:

Jenny Sturgeon
Best Electronic : TAAHLIAH
Best Newcomer : TAAHLIAH
Best Hip Hop : India Rose
Best Live Act : Callum Easter
Best Metal : Saor
Best Rock/Alternative : Fauves
