NEWS: Deer Shed Festival 11 to go ahead this year

Last week the government set out their long-awaited roadmap out of lockdown in England. If the coronavirus infection rate continues to decrease in this country and the vaccine roll-out remains on schedule, this four-stage plan will end on the 21st of June this year and all lockdown restrictions will then have been lifted.

This would mean that all restrictions currently in place for large events such as music festivals would also end at that point. Whilst it is readily acknowledged that the coming months will be filled with uncertainty and there still remains the potential for last-minute cancellations – without any suitable insurance indemnity policies yet being put in place – many festival organisers have embraced the positivity generated by the government’s announcement and started to roll out their plans for events to be held later in the summer.

One such event now working flat out to go ahead this year is the hugely popular Deer Shed Festival which is widely recognised as being the best family festival in the United Kingdom. Last year would have marked its eleventh annual edition but like every other event on the music festival calendar, the coronavirus pandemic led to its cancellation. But Deer Shed Festival 11 is now back on and will take place in its customary location of Baldersby Park in North Yorkshire between the 30th of July and the 1st of August 2021.

Since its inception in 2010, Deer Shed Festival has demonstrated a consistently strong sense of social responsibility including an ongoing commitment to the environment as well as the health and safety of all who attend their events. With this last point in mind and considering the ongoing vagaries of the coronavirus pandemic the festival organisers have issued the following statement on their website:

“The safety of our attendees is our top priority. Along with the Association Of Independent Festivals, we are working closely with the governmental Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) and Public Health England (PHE) to ensure a safe return. A number of pilot events are taking place over the next few months and the industry as a whole will consult on all aspects of safely running music festivals.”

As things stand, the programme for Deer Shed Festival 11 remains as was originally planned for last year, including an excellent line-up of music with the headliners James, Stereolab, and Baxter Dury. An extremely innovative undercard features amongst many others besides Ghostpoet, Cate Le Bon, Tim Burgess, The Twilight Sad and Sinkane.
