PREVIEW: Rochester Castle Concerts

PREVIEW: Rochester Castle Concerts

When: 6th – 9th July 2022
Where: Rochester Castle, Kent, England

Dating from the 12th century and located on the east bank of the river Medway in Rochester, Kent, South East England, Rochester Castle is one of the best preserved and finest examples of Norman architecture in the country and affords the visitor spectacular views from its keep or stone tower. And for four nights in early July Rochester Castle will play host to a series of great concerts.

The event opens on Wednesday 6th July with synth pop’s first international superstars, The Human League who will bring their dynamic hook-laden hits to this corner of the Garden of England. In a career now stretching back 45 years the pioneering electronic act will be performing many of their greatest songs, including the 1981 chart-topper ‘Don’t You Want Me’.

The following night it will be the turn of the renowned English singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer, James Blunt. Perhaps best known for his number 1 record ‘You’re Beautiful’ which topped the charts in 2004 in no less than a dozen countries worldwide, including the UK and US, he enjoyed huge commercial success in the mid-oughties. On a recent Greatest Hits tour the famously self-deprecating artist quipped that it should be hit singular and he would play his most famous song 22 times. In truth, though, Blunt continues to enjoy great popularity, still selling millions of copies of his music since his debut album Back to Bedlam was released 18 years ago.

The American funk band Cameo will top the bill on Friday. Almost half a century into their career they are still fronted by the music stylist legend Larry Blackmon. Expect to hear such classic dancefloor fillers as ‘Candy’, ‘Word Up’ and ‘Back and Forth’.

And Rochester Concerts 2022 concludes on Saturday night when Coventry’s legendary 2 Tone and ska-influenced band The Specials take to the main stage. This highly influential group – responsible for such magnificent singles as ‘Too Much Too Young’ ‘, ‘Gangsters’ and ‘Ghost Town’ in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s – have not rested on their considerable laurels as their 2019 release Encore will firmly attest, having reached number 1 in the album charts.

An exciting line up of supporting acts is to be announced for each date.
