NEWS: Ailsa Tully and Lydia Maddix announced as GIITTV picks for Focus Wales

We are happy to announce the two acts that will be performing for us at this year’s Focus Wales. They are Welsh songwriter Ailsa Tully who has been capturing our hearts with her evocative songs over the past few years she will appear alongside Tallies and Mart Avi at the Parish on Friday the 6th of May. Our second artist is Lydia Maddix a singer-songwriter and comedian who will entertain crowds at the Parish on Saturday the 7th of May, alongside other GITTV favourites Clwb Fuzz and Samantha Savage Smith.

Ailsa Tully recently returned with her captivating new single ‘Mothering’ on Dalliance Recordings (Gia Margaret, HighSchool, Wilsen). The rising Welsh singer-songwriter has also announced a run of UK headline dates in April as well as a string of festival dates including Focus Wales, Green Man and Liverpool Sound City.

Speaking about the song, Tully says: “’Mothering’ is about the distortion between the person you really are, and the person people want you to be. In our relationships, we tend to perceive others through the prism of our own experience and therefore fail to see beyond our own warped view. This is the first time I have explored creating drum parts with found sound, it feels very visceral and exciting, and a step in a new direction. I think it’s the rawest song I have ever made.”

Tully’s Holy Isle EP, which was released in September, won support for its inventive blend of cello, bass and field recordings with more traditional singer-songwriter fare. Despite the many lockdowns, Tully was able to make an impact on the live circuit last year, supporting Another Sky on their UK tour, playing her first London headline at Bermondsey Social Club and appearing at a number of festivals.

With festival bookings already beginning to stack up, a headline tour beginning in late April, and even more new music on the horizon, 2022

Tickets to Tully’s upcoming tour are available now. Dates below.

Lydia Maddix is a refreshing comedy-pop artist, writer, filmmaker, activist and presenter on the rise; hailed as ‘hilarious and original’ by BBC Radio 1. With frequent comparisons to Kate Nash due to her British-pop sound and punny lyrics, it was no surprise she was hand-picked by BBC Introducing to support her in 2019 at Standon Calling Festival. The London based artist has already gained support from the likes of comedian Sally Phillips, and actor Donald Waugh (Bugsy Malone, Grange Hill) for her work across Television, theatre and music.
