NEWS: Speedy Wunderground announces its 5th compilation set for release 29 July 2022

The London label Speedy Wunderground has announced its latest compilation set for release on 29 July 2022.  The label, headed up by producer Dan Carey alongside Alexis Smith and Pierre Hall, celebrates its tenth anniversary next year.  It has to be said that in the last few years there have been numerous professional accolades and personal triumphs including awards for ‘Best Small Label’ at the AIM awards and ‘UK Producer of The Year’ at the Music Producer Guild Awards for Dan Carey.   The latter confirming just how well-deserved this award is with two No. 1 albums so far this year with Fontaines D.C. and Wet Leg.

The first 4 Speedy Wunderground compilations were named Year 1/2/3/4 but as Hall explains, for this 5th release that simply wasn’t going to work, hence Vol 5:

“Well, we had to really due to boring stuff like vinyl manufacturing and COVID – we fell way behind.  It felt strange putting something out and calling it Year 5 – when it’s our 10th anniversary as a label next year.  If felt like we were doing ourselves a discredit.”

Thoughtfully, the two sides of the compilation reflect that passage of time brought about by external factors. Side A is all the tracks recorded before lockdown, and Side B all those recorded quite quickly after.

“Yeah, it’s weird how it happened like that” says Hall, “but it definitely wasn’t intentional.  It’s funny how things work out sometimes though.  It definitely gives it extra relevance.”

Tracklist:
1.    Lazarus Kane – Narcissus
2.    Pynch – Disco Lights
3.    PVA – Divine Intervention
4.    The Lounge Society – Generation Game
5.    Brodka & Scottibrains – Wrong Party
6.    moa moa – Coltan Candy
7.    Joyeria – Here Comes Trouble
8.   deep tan – tamu’s yiffing refuge

Speedy Wunderground has evolved over the years and responded to the current climate.  From its legendary single-series to its lock-in Quarantine Series.  From the success of Dan Cary as a producer to now releasing albums on the label by the likes of The Lounge Society, Stephen Fretwell and Honeyglaze, there is no desire to stand still.  Which is very good to know.
