PREVIEW: Shiiine On Weekender 2022

When: 11th – 14th November 2022

Where: Butlin’s Minehead Resort, Somerset, England.

Did watching Glastonbury on the TV in the comfort and warmth of your home whet your appetite for that buzz of long weekend Festivals again? Maybe you love live music, but are not sure about the mud, the rain and the flimsy tent leaking in light from that passer by’s blim-burn, or maybe you wish that festival season could last all year? Even if you just need a proper bed for a disco nap, Shiiine On has got you covered. A Boutique indoor festival without the mud, but with all the buzz.

Less Hi-de-Hi and more Mad for It,  the Shiiine On Weekender is “a celebration of Indie and Dance from the late 80s, 90s and beyond, bringing the bands that soundtracked the golden period in popular culture when clubbers and gig goers came together in what seemed like a decade long party.”

The Shiiine on Team have once again curated an immense line up including headliners Happy Mondays, whose bass player and founding member Paul Ryder, tragically passed away yesterday at the age of 58. He will be greatly missed and was a Shiiine On stalwart. He gave the band  their signature rolling groove. Indie giants Ash and Teenage Fanclub also headline with an outstanding supporting cast including St Etienne, Tim Burgess, Sleeper, Stereo MCS, Reef, Badly Drawn Boy, Therapy?, The House of Love, The Beat Ft Ranking Jnr,  EMF, Echobelly, Space, Dub Pistols, Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band, Andy Bell Space Station, The Frank & Walters, Power of Dreams, Kingmaker 4AD, Martin Carr & What Future, Utah Saints, Salad, and many, MANY more.

The epic three-night weekender will also feature pool parties, film screenings, amazing DJ sets including the legendary Steve Lamacq and a chance to check out the best new bands on the road.

As well as the huge names on the bill, as always, there are some hidden gems, which are not to be missed. Power of Dreams, who Alan McGee said, “should have been massive,” will be making their Shiiine On debut after the launch of their critically acclaimed album, Ausländer, and epic come back tour. Ned’s Atomic Dustbin‘s singer and drummer, Jonn Penney and Dan Worton team up to perform in their latest sizzling project, Spairs; hyper-dapper Martin Carr, frontman of the Boo Radleys, performs with What Future. Richard March from Pop Will Eat Itself, DJs with Bentley Rhythm Ace and features James Atkin from EMF as a touring member. Kingmaker are back in their new potent incarnation, Kingmaker 4AD and the R&B singer Geno Washington, who was named in the Dexy’s Midnight Runners song ‘Geno’ will be playing a legendary set too. As a member of the Guild of Hypnotists, his show promises to be magic.

Clint Boon from the Inspiral Carpets said, “Being at Shiiine has made me re-think what I want from a festival experience. Nice accommodation onsite, within walking distance of the stages. The line-up was amazing.

Rowetta from Happy Mondays said, ” I had such a superb time at last year’s Shiiine On. It was a joyous weekend full of smiling faces,” while footballer and DJ, Pat Nevin said, “Shiiine On was a blast. Great bands, great people and a great time. Roll on the next one.”
