Brighton-based quartet Winter Gardens return with their latest single, ‘Search Party’, the second single to be taken from their forthcoming EP Uncomfortable/Unlovable.
Inspired by the 2016 dark comedy series of the same name, ‘Search Party’ explores the lingering effects of trauma on personal growth. It portrays the inner conflict of a character caught between repeating destructive patterns learned from past pain or breaking free from them. The song’s narrative unfolds through the eyes of a troubled antagonist, fixated on a kidnapped victim, whose obsessive and misguided affection escalates into a dangerous power struggle.
‘Search Party’ blurs the lines of shoegaze, psychedelia, and dream pop, with puncturing drum patterns, fuzzy layers of guitar, widescreen synths and infused with heart swelling vocals of Ananda Howard and Jasmine Ardley to craft an immersive tapestry, ‘Search Party’ is an enveloping soundscape that plunges you deeply into an emotional epiphany. Produced by Luke Marsden and Winter Gardens, and mastered by Andy Miles at Star Delta.
Speaking about the track, the band adds: “During recording of the track we were having some trouble with the bass. In the end our producer used a soldering iron on a banana skin to both fix the bass guitar and achieve the desired bass tone for the track.”
Since their formation, Winter Gardens have opened for a number of high-profile artists including Echo & The Bunnymen, Gary Numan, and Piroshka, and performed at notable festivals such as Rockaway Beach, Left Of The Dial, Supersonic and The Great Escape.
