EXCLUSIVE: Canned Pineapple ‘Elvis’ Video Premiere

Brighton group Canned Pineapple share the accompanying video for their hook laden new single ‘Elvis’ today, and we are premiering it below. It is out ahead of their upcoming EP ‘Big Break’ out on the 21st of March.

Punctuated by tongue-in-cheek lyricism , hip swaying guitars and catchy melodies, ‘Elvis’ is a scuzzy, power-pop tune rattling with playfulness. Produced by Tom Rees (Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard/The Bug Club/Panic Shack), the track captures the band’s live sound, underpinned by a brimming mix of psychedelia and nostalgic doo-wop. Alluding to the band’s Elvis Costello inspired, restraint and radio ready urgency, the track is as fun as it is accomplished.

Speaking about the single, the band explain: “‘Elvis’ was written as a sort of sequel to one of our collective favourite songs ‘Alison’ by Elvis Costello; a song about Costello running into an ex-lover and having a new husband. We thought it was funny the idea of Seán being Alison’s new husband as sometimes he gets comments about looking like Costello with the glasses and suit y’know. Maybe Alison is only married to Seán because she never got over Costello. Poor Seán but… Who could blame her!”

Continuing to talk about the EP, the band add: “‘Big Break’ is our tongue in cheek exploration of the idea that a band can ‘make it’ in the modern world and whether or not it’s just a fallacy exclusive to being printed in history. We’re approaching the start to our fourth year as a band and the last three have been a total rollercoaster. With extreme highs and lows, ‘Big Break’ highlights a culmination of experiences we’ve had as a band, as housemates and as brothers, growing into adults together while in each other’s pockets as well as the pursuit for something bigger. We give you another six: party people, sing all night, run on the ceiling rock tunes and It’s our proudest, most honest work yet. We hope it resonates with you as much as it does for us.”

Since their appearance at New Colossus Festival, New York in early ’24, Canned Pineapple have had an explosive year sharing stages with the likes of LCD Soundsystem, The National, and The Last Dinner Party, playing sold-out UK and European tours and festival slots across the UK.

Fronted by charismatic lead vocalist Seán Drury, alongside guitarist Oakley Gardiner, God of Love Gabe Rice, and drummer Charlie Pringle, Canned Pineapple’s rise has been swift. With a relentless touring schedule lined up for the end of 2024 and early 2025, including stops at FiftyLab Festival (Brussels) and Third Man Records (London), Canned Pineapple are set to build on the buzz surrounding their high-energy live performances and scuzz-pop sound.
