NEWS: todd modern shares debut single ‘yyours’

Songwriter todd modern has shared his shimmering debut single ‘yyours,‘ a gloriously raw, lo-fi track, reflecting on longing and distance, blending loose guitars, understated vocals, and a sense of quiet urgency. With a jangling wall of sound, Beck– like vocals and a mosaic of glistening riffs, the track balances detachment with a sharp emotional undercurrent- reflecting the feeling of ‘wanting someone who doesn’t feel the same’. The Liverpool based artist captures the essence of slacker -rock in this understated, stylish track creating a time-hopping sound that’s both retro and innovative.

Taking influence from Pavement, The Velvet Underground, Alex G, and Duster, todd modern embraces a lo-fi, DIY approach to songwriting—unpolished but intentional, rough but deeply personal. His lyrics sit between observation and introspection, reflecting fleeting moments and unresolved emotions.

Beyond music, todd is drawn to the raw energy of Jackson Pollock’s chaotic expressionism and the distorted intensity of Francis Bacon’s paintings. Their approach to art—immediate, imperfect, and emotionally charged—mirrors his own. There’s also a nod to the spontaneity of Andy Warhol’s Factory, where creativity was fast, loose, and instinctive.

Originally from the coastline of Cumbria and now based in Liverpool, Todd’s surroundings have shaped his sound. The grey sea, empty piers, and shifting tides weave into the atmosphere of ‘yyours,’ giving it a subtle sense of place without being tied to one.

With this first release, todd modern establishes himself as a lo-fi artist with an instinct for raw, honest songwriting. ‘yyours‘ is just the beginning.
