2G Irish trailblazers Missing The Ferry have released their epic new video ‘The Dalston Railway Tavern’ with the warm swagger of The Verve and urban- Irish swing of The Pogues, they pick up the baton from the London Irish legends who sang about ‘A Rainy Night in Soho’ ‘The Dark Streets of London’. ‘White City‘ and more. Continuing this tradition, Missing the Ferry’s track is set in pre-gentrified Hackney, where, the lost, the found, the desperate and sound drunk in a little Dalston pub known as ‘The Railway Tavern‘. Jamaicans, Irish and the rest chilled in easy style to the sound of country and Reggae music. “This was the London we loved. We settled down amongst the smoke, Guinness and jerk chicken,” said the band.
Anyone who’s spent time here will know that this inclusive scene is the true face of the immigrant experience- with many remembering the Ghanaian Labour MP Bernie Grant being instrumental in the creation of the former Irish Centre in Tottenham.
Laced with the upbeat grá of cascading fiddles and buoyant staccato bounce of rhythmic guitar, resonant radio- ready vocals and rich melismatic harmonies tell of “The fear and dark I’m drinking to avoid .” It’s a bona fide banger, juxtaposing soul-bearing truth with, smoky evocative scene- setting and joyous anthemic choruses.
’Missing the Ferry said that as second-generation Irish they were not sure where they belonged, “but as the Kingsland high street roared outside, we knew where we felt at home!” Speaking of the video release, the band’s founder member Paul Anderson said their video is, ‘Like a beautiful west-of-Ireland sunset, or a perfect pint of stout.”
Missing The Ferry’s latest video is produced by Luton-based filmmakers Two Side Studios and was filmed in Dalston and Luton in February 2025. Jasbir from Two Sides Studios adds:
‘We’ve been working with the lads since last year and we’re excited to be able to bring their vision for this music video to life. We are thrilled to be a part of the boys’ journey and we can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us and especially for Luton!’
Missing The Ferry are a second-generation Irish band from Luton made up of three brothers: Paul, Kevin and Chris Anderson along with their best friends: Kevin Cunningham and Richard Herity. They write songs about identity and belonging. With influences as diverse as Brendan Shine, The Pogues and The Stone Roses their mission is to get people dancing and thinking.
As the band says, “Anyone who has ever missed, or nearly missed, the Dublin-bound ferry from Holyhead will get the name. Don’t be Missing The Ferry yourselves!“
The song is the opening track of their debut EP ‘Lonely Londoners’ which is available to buy on Bandcamp here and can be streamed on all other digital platforms as well from Easter Sunday.
You can also buy a physical copy of the EP here. They support the mighty Biblecode Sundays in Luton’s Hat Factory on Friday 9th May.
