EXCLUSIVE: bedd ‘Walkie No Talkie’ Video Premiere

‘Walkie No Talkie’ is the new single from Oxford band bedd, a musical project lead by singer, songwriter, composer and producer Jamie Hyatt. Today we are debuting the accompanying video made by filmmaker Liam Martin, shot on location in and around Cardiff; watch it below.

Singer Jamie Hyatt explains the idea behind the video: “The video is about time travel and memories and about feeling disconnected. The sleeping bag is like a portal to different times and places.  We spent a long day visiting places and emerging from the sleeping bag for a look around before going back into its comforting safety”.

Walkie No Talkie is the new single from bedd’s forthcoming debut album, titled Do Not Be Afraid, coming out in Autumn  2025. Jamie is a longstanding Oxford musician known for his previous bands The Family Machine, The Daisies and Medal as well as his scores for films Elstree 1976 and The Life and Deaths of Christopher Lee. Walkie No Talkie follows recent bedd single Party on dude (Endless) (October 2024) and 1⅞ cassette EP released on Beanie Tapes in October 2021.

Based on an idea Jamie wrote on a borrowed Yamaha Dx7 synth, Walkie No Talkie is a woozy and wistful tune that calls to mind classic bands such as Depeche Mode and The Cure and even a touch of Blur in the melancholic, heart tugging climax, with reverb-laden guitars and analogue synths giving a suitably elegiac backing to Jamie’s heartfelt bleady eye’d vocal.  When asked about the inspiration behind Walkie No Talkie, Jamie says “it’s about making sense of a world that often seems so senseless, and getting to grips with your past and your memories“. With an EP coming in June and their debut album coming in the Autumn, bedd are looking set to go from strength to strength in 2025.

Alongside Jamie, bedd is made up by a range of celebrated local Oxford musical talents including bandmates from his previous project The Family Machine in the shape of bass player Darren Fellerdale and guitarist Neil Durbridge. Also, in the mix are guitarist Tom Sharp, electronic musician and producer Tim Midlen, also known as The Mancles of Acid, and drummer Sam Spacsman.  Do Not Be Afraid was recorded and produced by Jamie with the band at Glasshouse studios in rural Oxfordshire and mixed and mastered by Robert Stevenson at Sweetzerland Studios. Previous bedd EP 1⅞ received plaudits from across the blogosphere and airplay from across the BBC network.
