“You are behind the damn wheel every day and you don’t even know it.”
Powerplant’s band leader Theo Zhykharyev advises us as the London-based project release their latest single, ‘Crashing Cars.’ The song “signals the return to their signature formula of marching drum machines and wailing synthesisers, matured by life experiences of prolonged touring.”
Zhykharyev continues, “Car is life, brother. Sometimes you drive it, other times – the car drives you. And, statistically, we’ll all see the airbags go off sooner or later, as the consequence of choices made by us or onto us, consciously or not.”
The 7″ vinyl of ‘Crashing Cars’ was released last Friday via Powerplant’s newfound label Arcane Dynamics. The song was recorded in bedrooms in 2021 and 2024 and completed at Holy Mountain Studios with vocals tracked and songs mixed by Stanley Gravett (Idles, The Horrors, High Vis).

Powerplant’s debut album People in the Sun originally came out in 2019, and to mark its fifth birthday, Theo Zhykharyev re-released it via Arcane Dynamics. Highlighting the band’s enduring popularity, the single ‘Dungen’ from that album has over two million streams on Spotify.
