NEWS: The Tubes 40th Anniversary Tour

thetubes_albumIt is hard to believe that forty years have now elapsed since The Tubes blew out of San Fransisco with a sound that was lodged somewhere between glam rock and punk and an accompanying live act that embraced scandal, satire and overt sexuality and had morally outraged local councillors diving for cover in their efforts to get their shows banned. If you think of some hugely overblown hybrid of Alice Cooper and the New York Dolls you may just about start to get The Tubes’ picture. It was, and still is, big on energy, high drama, grand theatre and good old fashioned rock’n’roll.

In less than a week’s time The Tubes embark on the UK leg of their 40th anniversary tour with the first of their nine dates scheduled for next Monday at The Fleece in Bristol. The current five-man line-up of the band features four original members – Fee Waybill (lead vocals), Roger Steen (guitar), Rick Anderson (bass) and Prairie Prince (drums) – and also has David Medd (keyboards), who has played with the band since 2006.

Expect to hear ‘What Do You Want From Life?’, ‘Mondo Bondage’, ‘Sushi Girl’, ‘Talk To Ya Later’, their monster 1983 single ‘She’s A Beauty’ and the controversial song that had originally seen them break the UK market six years earlier, ‘White Punks On Dope’ (see below).
