Amy Winehouse dies age 27

amyAmy Winehouse was found dead in her Camden flat this afternoon. She was 27. Police state time of death at 3:54pm; reason currently unexplained, though rumour is rife that she suffered a fatal overdose.

Winehouse recently checked into a London rehabilitation scheme citing an alcohol dependency. According to the BBC she was “under strict instructions not to drink“, though footage from her troubled Serbian gig last month saw the Back To Black singer mumbling, slurring and frequently leaving the stage. Winehouse was forced to cancel the remainder of her European tour, though many anticipated a return to promote the release of her third album.

Her label Universal have issued the following statement: “We are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of such a gifted musician, artist and performer.” Multiple other friends and relatives – including Lily Allen and Fearne Cotton – have paid their respects, most of them via Twitter.

A post-mortem will take place tomorrow, Sunday 24th 2011.
