A Hawk and A Hacksaw unveil ‘Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors’ tour & Soundtrack for 2012

New Mexico’s widescreen roving folk duo A Hawk and A Hacksaw (accordionist/drummer Jeremy Barnes and violinist Heather Trost) present a brand new live soundtrack of Soviet director Sergei Parajanov’s classic film Shadows Of Forgotten Ancestors on an 8 date tour starting in a fortnight. Kicking off in the UK (including The Barbican in London on Dec 1), the band then head to Portugal, Switzerland and Italy, before returning to perform the rescore at the rescheduled Jeff Mangum-curated All Tomorrow’s Parties, now taking place in March 2012. The soundtrack will be released as an album on the band’s LM Dupli-cation label in the spring.

Set high up in the Carpathian mountains, Shadows Of Forgotten Ancestors tells the age old tale of a peasant’s love and loss in a pre-industrial age where magic and ritual are as much a part of existence as back-breaking work and violent family feuds. The colour, grandeur and gut-wrenching romance of A Hawk and A Hacksaw’s music is the perfect counterpoint to Parajanov’s visionary blend of folklore, sorcery and religious symbolism.
