FREE: Mariachi El Bronx – ‘Only The Lonely’ Roy Orbison cover

Mariachi El Bronx

Mariachi El Bronx, the alter ego of acclaimed Los Angeles-based punk outfit The Bronx, kick off their Vans Off the Wall European tour headlining in Dublin tomorrow. To celebrate they have given Roy Orbison’s ‘Only The Lonely’ the Mariachi El Bronx treatment and are giving it away for free!

Following the release of their well-received second album, ‘Mariachi El Bronx (II)’ in September, Mariachi El Bronx played storming shows at this year’s Reading & Leeds Festivals and the reaction to the album in their native US has been equally impressive, topping the Billboard alternative chart. They’ve just finished touring the US with The Foo Fighters and also recently made their debut US national TV appearance on Jay Leno.

Mariachi El Bronx was conceived in 2006, after The Bronx was asked to perform unplugged on Fuel TV. Believing that nothing sucks more than rock bands playing acoustic songs, they adopted another style of music endemic to Los Angeles and infinitely better suited for an acoustic performance – mariachi music. The experience unearthed something unexpected, what the band likens to discovering a second soul within. Touring the world as The Bronx, they simultaneously began writing songs for Mariachi El Bronx. In 2007, Vincent Hidalgo, son of David Hidalgo (Los Lobos, Latin Playboys), joined the lineup and everything came together. They have released 2 Mariachi El Bronx albums to date.
