Possibly another name to drop in 2012 might be Oxford five piece Zulu Winter who have just signed to the Play It Again Sam label. They are currently recording their debut album with co-producer Tom Morris, due May 2012. The band kick off 2012 with appearances at Eurosonic and SXSW.
“We’re delighted to be signing Zulu Winter with Play It Again Sam. We have pieced together a network of first class independent labels around the band globally with PIAS, Dew Process & Hostess all now in business with them. We’re relishing the year ahead, and localised attention to detail and knowledge this team will bring to the band’s debut album campaign”
James Sandom, SuperVision Management
Musically the band have been compared to Wild Beasts, The Antlers and Foals. The band use their blog to discuss influences and are extremely literate and well-read (taking in everything from Tracey Warr and Merce Cunningham to Glenn Branca and Paradjanov – check out their mixtapes).
The band have just released their debut single with Double Denim.
The band play a New to Q show at XOYO on Jan 26th.

What do you make of Zulu Winter? Too commercial and contrived? Or possessors of a sound that’s perfectly placed for 2012?
