Open email, move onto the next open email, read listen, move onto the next, as much as we love receiving correspondence sometimes wading through our inbox here at GIITTV can seem like a dead eye’d chore. Then one day you click open and play and up pops a fabulously buoyant disco pop tune to give you a lip smacking kiss of life, and what’s more it’s totally FREE! Leeds’ ‘The Birthday Kiss’ are a three piece with a history in outfits like The Research and The Lodger the band were formed in the middle of last year by songwriter, guitarist and producer Ben, recruiting best friends Sarah on vocals, Joe on bass guitar and Bruce on percussion.

Their new single ‘Choking’ is rather marvellous containing the kind of urgent electro-pop rush of a early Human League or Saint Etienne, Sarah’s lilting ‘heading home from the disco at end of the night on your own’ lament decorates a knowing production suss that grooves bleeps and serrates like a long lost new wave classic and compels you to move your dancing shoes, rather than being over produced it oozes with personality and appeal what’s more it’s a free digital download available now below!

Previously a Christmas song “Sentimental Christmastime” was issued last December on Soundcloud as a present for fans. The band are currently working on a debut album in Leeds, for release later this year.!
