TOTD #142: We Show Up On Radar – The Anchors In Your Heart

We Show Up on Radar is the monniker of Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer Andy Wright his charming album ‘Sadness Defeated’ was released into the world this September.

Today’s track ‘The Anchors in your Heart’ is that records centerpiece, Wright’s brittle falsetto weaves patterns through a patchwork of twinkling instrumentals underpinned by chiming mandolins and piano strokes. Like the enchanted meeting place between the crumpled introspection of Sparklehorse and the indie-folk-pop melodrama of Dawn of the Replicants. It’s a bewitching bittersweet concoction that’s choral refrain for bravery and freeing of the heart from the chains of self doubt, somehow manages to be both melancholic and uplifting at the same time!’The Anchors In Your Heart’ is an enveloping lullaby that casts a spell upon every listener that comes into its presence.

Like nursery rhymes for grown-ups, We Show Up On Radar songs are bewitching tales scattered with references to Hollywood actors, woodland animals, underwhelming genitalia and octogenarian astronomers. It is music that is full of contradictions – childlike and sweet, but a bit wrong.

In 2010 We Show Up On Radar released a 6-track EP Wright also recorded a session as part of the BBC Introducing Weekender at the legendary Maida Vale studios.

2011 saw We Show Up On Radar support Bright Eyes at Nottingham’s Rock City and dazzle with a headline slot at Club Fandango at the Bull & Gate, London.
