From the self-professed “specialists in commercial suicide” Audio Antihero label comes a hearty dose of plaintive Christmas ‘uncheer’ from two of their stalwart signings, Benjamin Shaw, and the Fighting Kites. A moody resigned carol, ‘This Christmas (I just Want To Be Left Alone)’ is a sad reflection on our times.
For his part, ‘Les Miserable’ himself, Shaw, delivers another lo-fi elegiac waltz of heartache, whilst the Kites tumble over a post-rock, jolting backing of lovelorn despair that shakes with the repeating last refrain of “It’s Christmas time for God sake!”
An antidote to the usual saccharine yuletide material, this pay-what-you-want mournful spilt single, is however for a good cause, with proceeds going to the homeless Shelter.
