NEWS: New music festival on Skye

Date: 3rd – 4th April 2015
Location: Portree, Isle of Skye

Skye Live, a brand new Scottish festival, will take place this year on the picturesque Isle of Skye.  To meet the demand, the organisers have already increased capacity for this event set in an old amphitheatre on the site of the annual Highland Games.

DJ headliners Felix Martin from Hot Chip, Andrew Weatherall, Sean Johnston and recently added Lord of the Isles will share a bill with acts rooted in traditional Celtic dance music, such as Peatbog Faeries and Shooglenifty, making for an unusual blend of sounds.

Double Take Projections – one of Scotland’s most creative visual projection companies who worked on both T in the Park and the Commonwealth Games – are also part of this event. Ali MacIsaac, one of the duo behind the festival added, “this will offer fantastic opportunities for Double Take Projections to deliver a fantastic visual experience, using the landscape of the area in an exciting and imaginative way”. The main performance space will be an elegant, classic circus big top; the first time such a venue has been used on the Games ground since the travelling circus’ appearance in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Co-organiser Niall Munro said, “Since the sad demise of the former Skye Music Festival a number of years ago, I have felt that it was important to do something special here again on Skye. It is such a unique and beautiful island location and just the perfect place for a small festival of this type.”
