Post-industrial electronic duo Factory Floor are gearing up to release their sophomore album 25 25 on 19th August via DFA. Nik Void previously explained why the duo were shifting towards a more streamlined sound on 25 25: “Our shows between 2014-2015 were steadily moving towards late night club stompers, and gradually our tools were becoming more and more mobile within two Peli cases wheeled across the continent. We were forever testing out changing sets from one place to the next.” Void and Gabriel Gurnsey also shared the first single ‘Dial Me In,’ a slow-burning dance track with skittering hi-hats and morphing beats, in May. They’ve now unveiled its follow-up, ‘Ya.’
The inspiration and streamlining that comes with playing more late night shows definitely shows on the club-ready ‘Ya.’ Across its seven minutes, its repetitive beats and quick-fire, reverberating synths hypnotise the listener. But far from being tedious, the track gradually transforms itself, adding more and more layers to its foundation in a semi-experimental, engaging blur. Listen below.
