Track Of The Day #920: Cactus? – I Don’t Think It’s Good For You To Stop Smoking

Cactus? – at least based on ‘I Don’t Think It’s Good For You To Stop Smoking’ – are very much in a similar vein to mid-2000s British indie.  It’s almost like it’s a little bit of everything from the mid-2000s, really:  part Libertines, part Franz Ferdinand, part Arctic Monkeys, Part Kooks, and part, well, everything else, with added synth sounds.  The title is more than likely tongue-in-cheek (as well as being a bit of a mouthful to say), toeing the line between sarcasm and irony.

On the face of it, it’s an odd combination of influences for an Italian-based, young band.  Then again, perhaps it makes sense – I mean, this [that ‘Mid-noughties Brit Indie sound’] would have been right around the time the band would have seriously discovered music.  Why British Indie?  Nobody knows, but oddly enough, it actually works well.  It’s a lot of fun and perfect for kicking off another working week in style.
