Track Of The Day #1040: Princess Nokia – G.O.A.T.

New York City’s Princess Nokia (real name Destiny Frasqueri) has been creating a hell of a buzz in the music world. The rapper is known for her highly versatile sound, DIY ethic and uncompromising political beliefs. She recently announced plans for a deluxe edition of her debut album 1992 that was released last year. ‘G.O.A.T.’ is the first new song from this upcoming release via Rough Trade Records. The track sees Frasqueri rapping about her well-deserved success over a straightforward and slightly dark beat.

Princess Nokia’s live shows have been noticed for centring women and people of colour and creating a safe space. Her debut album took an autobiographical tone as she addressed her upbringing, heritage, interests and love for her hometown. Before making music under the name Princess Nokia, she performed as Wavy Spice. She is also a co-founder of the urban feminist collective Smart Girls Club. She is currently on a world tour, dates can be found here.
