Welsh Language Album Of The Year 2021 Shortlist Announced

The shortlist for the 2021 Welsh Language Album of the Year / Gwobr Albwm Cymraeg y Flwyddyn  has been announced by the National Eisteddfod and BBC Radio Cymru.  The award celebrates the variety and depth of music recorded in the Welsh language music recorded and released  between May 2020 – 21.

The shortlist comprises of ‘Maske‘, the electronic second album from Carw, Carwyn Ellis and Rio 18‘s uplifting pop and Latin American flavoured ‘Mas’, trio Cwtsh‘s debut ‘Gyda’n Gilydd‘, ‘Cwm Gwagle’ from the legendary Datblygu, Elfed Saunders Jones with rock opera ‘Gadewaist‘, MC Jac Da Trippa’sKim Hong Chon‘, Mared‘s debut of jazz, folk and pop and beautiful voice ‘Y Drefn‘ , Mark Roberts aka Mr, ex Catatonia and Y Cyrff with ‘Feiral‘, boundary pushing hip hop from Mr Phormula‘s ‘Tiwns‘, and Tomos Williams‘s jazz suite ‘Cwmwl Tystion‘.

The judges of this year’s award were Dylan Cernyw, Dylan Hughes, Dylan Jenkins, Eilir Owen Griffiths, Ifan Davies, Marged Gwenllian, Marged Rhys, Nia Mai Daniel, Rhiannon Lewis and Tegwen Bruce Deans.

The winner will be announced by the Eisteddfod and BBC Radio Cymru during the 2021 Eisteddfod AmGen held from 31 July – 7 August.

This is the sixth time for the Eisteddfod to present the  award, with Ani Glass, MelltBendithSwnamiGwenno and the Gentle Good claiming the award since 2014.

The shortlist was announced on Huw Stephens’ programme on Radio Cymru this evening.
