NEWS: Poster Paints release ace debut EP ‘Blood Orange’

One of my ones to watch for 2022, Glasgow duo Poster Paints — Carla J Easton (TeenCanteen, The Vaselines) and Simon Lidell (Frightened Rabbit, Olympic Swimmers) — have released their awesome debut Blood Orange EP today via Ernest Jenning Record Co / Olive Grove Records. Stream the EP below

Carla J Easton says: “We’re really excited to be working with Ernest Jenning and Olive Grove Records on releasing our music this year! It’s a brilliant opportunity for us to collaborate with two brilliant independent labels who are committed to supporting artists they love and be part of a global family who will nurture our music.”

Poster Paints seamlessly meld together the wonderful vocals of Carla J Easton with the rich guitar work of Simon Liddell, fusing together two talents who met initially through Carla’s work with The Vaselines. Featuring Number 1’ that hooks you in like a standout summer anthem, full of gorgeous fuzz, Spector-style drums and shot through with melody, to make something quite beautiful. This song exploded in our hearts.

‘Never Saw It Coming’ meanwhile possesses a wistful, melodic earworm quality that gradually envelopes you. Carla J Easton’s enraptured and lovelorn melodies tumble forth and pierce holding you transfixed, swirling with memories of The Sundays or Camera Obscura. It’s framed Simon Liddell’s shimmering guitar work, stuttering Motown-esque drums and elegant instrumentation. It’s a understated gem. It also features the infectious title track and cover of Love PositionsInto your arms‘.
